Print mixing can be scary, for fear of looking like a crazy street person or a four year old who got dressed herself from the dress-up bin.  I’m not usually one for doing lots of prints, especially together, but for some reason, these two prints just spoke to me.  I picked these two pieces up around the same time, and since they both have a crisp cotton feel, a black and white base, and both scream “SUMMER!”, I tried them together– and it just worked! A few tips for pairing mixed prints together:

  1. Keep them in a similar color story (like I said above, both have a black and white base)
  2. Make sure both prints have a similar “feel”… see how the gingham and “postcard print” (that’s what J.Crew is calling the print on my top) have a summer vibe to them?
  3. Pair one “dominant” print, like the one on my top, with a more subtle, or smaller print, like the gingham sandals, so that they aren’t in direct competition.
  4. Use a simple staple piece, like my denim skirt, to ground both prints and to give the eye a break, visually.

Happy print mixing guys!

xo, ❤

Christine
