Look 2: Blush culottes: Forever 21 |Charcoal turtleneck: Urban OUtfitters|Suede tan lace up sandals: Zara (sold out, similar here)| Leather Moto Jacket: Mango (sold out; I like this one too ) |Sunnies: Illesteva

I wore these two looks to NYFW last week, trying out two of my favorite fall trends: culottes and mustard yellow.  Look 1 I wore to the Rebecca Minkoff show (meh couldn’t get any show pics :/)– this lace high neck mini dress from Forever 21 is in one of my fave current 70s shades, mustard yellow (a great color for brunettes, if I do say so myself!). I paired it with pointed toe grey Tibi booties to play against the girliness of the dress, tied a denim jacket around my waist (can’t stop won’t stop doing this recently!) to add edge and dimension to the look, and added mirrored sunnies to keep things fun and modern.  The second look I wore to the Seventeen Magazine and Essie Polish event and cocktail party– and these culottes are ANOTHER F21 FIND GUYS!!! One of my fashion strategies when it comes to trends is to buy a test item at a cheapie store like Forever or H&M, before committing to a more expensive version of the item– that way you can make sure you really like it/it flatters you/you have use for it in your wardrobe routine.  Turns out, I’M OBSESSED WITH CULOTTES! They are such an unexpected, nice departure from years of skinny jeans (which I still love, just need to change it up every now and again).  I love them with sneaks for a casual look, with pointed toe heels for a professional vibe, or lace ups like I did here to give them some visual interest and edge.  The most important thing to keep in mind with these pants (intimidating at first) is to make sure you show some ankle and your shoe choice is narrow to show contrast with the wide and flowy silhouette. I paired these blush culottes with a charcoal turtleneck and leather moto jacket– classic, but modern.  Shop the links to the items above (I’ve linked similar items to sold out ones for you guys!)

Happy Fashion Month!

Mix List: My Pointed Toe Loafer Picks for Fall

If you guys buy one shoe for fall, make it the pointed toe loafer.  By now, we all have multiple pairs of boots and booties in our closet, and heels galore– the freshest way to update your looks this fall is a pair of these guys.  They will ground any look with a more masculine edge– for me, traditional flats feel too expected.  Pointed toe loafers are literally my dream shoe for so many reasons– tomboyish appeal, a sense of irony, sharpness and edge, annddddd comfort! As a teacher, I’m always on the run (sometimes literally lol), so these are my fave way to stay on trend footwear wise, while giving my feet a break during the week from heels!  Some of my fave ways to wear them:
With skinnies, cuffed or shortened to show off some ankle– this is vital…there needs to be a few inches of ankle if you wear pants or jeans with these guys…otherwise they appear more dad-ish than fashion-y.
With dresses, to offset the femininity.
With a mini skirt, leather or suede/denim button up, with a sweater or button up– kinda 70s collegiate vibes…
With overalls, duh.
Below, find some of my favorite pointed toe loafer options out there now, in varying price ranges:

Weekly Round-up: What’s on my Style Radar this (Fashion) Week

1. It’s NYFW!

2. Labor Day Denim Onesie:

unnamed315

I wore this Abercrombie & Fitch denim button up onesie to dimsum brunch in Chinatown this LDW.  I paired it with my fave Schutz lace up sandals, as both these pieces’ days are numbered as fall weather (hopefully!) sets in!

3. Fall Beauty buys:

unnamed320

unnamed321

I’ve always been a fan of MAC lipstick; they have great shades, last all day, and are pretty inexpensive for a non-drugstore buy.  I just picked up THE PERFECT NEUTRAL FALL SHADE GUYS: “Del Rio”— I’d describe it a  muted brick–great to go with any look, as the shade won’t compete with what you’re wearing, but you will still look like you have a mouth.  This shade will pair perfectly with all the muted 70s tones you’ll be wearing this Fall.

unnamed323

I’m also a big fan of MAC’s eyeshadow– usually I buy the single shades, but this “Amber Times Nine” has allllll the perfect fall shades– gold, bronze, plum, brown, and of course amber.

4. New In: Rebecca Minkoff Gold Crystal Studs

unnamed319

Added these crystal studs to my daily gold mix– I’m totally digging the earthy/edgy vibe of these guys– super unique, yet will work well as my go-to everyday studs. Link to buy ’em here.

5. Which grey bag?

So I’m in the market for a new bag for Fall– I know that I definitely want something with a long(ish) shoulder strap, and with a rectangular(ish) shape, medium sized.  I’m deciding between:

The Chloe Faye:

and, the Saint Laurent Betty:

Obviously, both are investment pieces, with price tags not to be taken lightly lol…so I want to pick the right one!  Leave your vote in the comments below!  I’d love to hear your input!

Happy Fashion Week!

Mix Must: The Neutral Camo T-shirt

Camouflage as a print in fashion, and in keeping with its name, truly goes with everything– it pretty much “blends” (HA!) with whatever else you are wearing– it mixes nicely with other simple patterns, and is a perfect way to add some movement and texture to an otherwise solid or simple look.  When cut in a more feminine shape, the like J. Crew t-shirt I’m wearing below, it adds the perfect tomboyish edge to a look.

Under these white shortalls, the camo is definitely unexpected, which I love– I’ve worn these overalls with striped tees and solid mock turtlenecks, but this camo tee is my fave thing I’ve paired them with so far.  A camo tee is a MUST in your wardrobe– you’ll find yourself reaching for it over and over again when you feel like you need a bit of a pattern and don’t want to go with a solid, but a floral or stripe is too feminine or expected.  You’ll pair this tee with leather pieces in the fall, distressed denim and pink (one of my fave trifectas!), and with cozy grey in winter. I’ve linked a few great camo tees in varying price ranges, as the exact one I’m wearing is a few years old from J. Crew.
