Jacket & boots: Zara | jeans : DL1961 | bag: Saint Laurent

If there’s an “it” jacket this season, it’s the oversized “aviator” jacket— and I love these for so many reasons.  Often in (faux) suede or (faux) leather, with a shearling or fur collar and cuffs, they’re at the same time functional and chic— tomboyish in an “Amelia Earhart- rogue” kind of way, modern yet classic and timeless. If you like a motorcycle jacket, THIS is your winter version— they can be worn basically with ANYTHING, just as you would a moto jacket— to dress down or edge up a dress or skirt, with jeans or leather leggings, or like I did this morning, to “pull together” a really casual Sunday- deli- run look, over leggings and a sweatshirt with sneaks— I immediately felt less lazy! Below, shop my “six picks” at a variety of price points!

Outfit Inspo : H&M Sweaters Three Ways

I definitely have an on again- off again relationship with H&M— in the past, some of their pieces just haven’t fit me right and feel a little too “fast fashion” (not so good quality)— but I have to say, this fall/winter, they have been KILLING IT in the sweater department! At price points under $50, there are SO MANY good choices this season, and the quality is impeccable! See how I styled three of my current faves below:

Black sweater with tulle sleeves | black skinny jeans | Edgy square toe heels

Look 1: I love an “un-basic” black piece— sometimes wearing black, while being flattering and feeling safe, can fall a little flat style wise… enter the black statement piece! A top like this sweater, with chiffon blousy sleeves, totally makes the outfit more interesting… I paired it with my fave black Madewell jeans and these new square toe, edgy black strap heels from Zara, and my red Chanel to add an unexpected element. Look for black pieces with a extra special detail, structure or embellishment.

Camouflage embossed sweater | grey skinny jeans | white booties | white sunnies and bag: Saint Laurent

Look 2: Always a sucker for a camo print, when I saw this sweater I knew I had to have it! It’s the perfect mix of tomboyish and girly, kind of a subtle take on camo.  I went for grey jeans with this look to pull from the base color of the sweater, and paired it with my fave white booties and sunnies to make the white in the sweater pop even more.

Red sweaterRed fine knit sweater in two other colors here | rust overall dress | furry Pom Pom sneakers

Look 3: Red is definitely the color of the season, and this sweater offers endless styling possibilities! I’ve already worn it with a denim skirt, with jeans, with a leather mini, and most recently, layered under this rust overall dress for a take on a color blocked mono chromatic-ish look.  I love layering unexpected pieces under overalls, and the balloonish sleeves on this super soft sweater make it a great piece to put under an overall dress (any top with cool sleeves is perf to layer under a strapping dress or overalls in my opinion). Some of you guys might be nervous to pair two similar colors like this together, but I feel like it really works well when two shades of a similar color are blocked together— as long as it looks purposeful and not accidental!

Ok guys, that’s it for now— I DEF recommend swinging by H&M this season to check out their sweater selection … and hopefully use these outfits as inspiration for how to style them!

Look: Ruffles & Leather

Grey ruffle sleeve sweater | leather mini skirt (old Zara, similar here and here) | white booties (the COMFIEST) and ON SALE!!!

Before temps in New York dropped to cold AF this weekend, I wore this look for a date with my guys.  A fun mini skirt, whether leather (faux in this case), patterned, textured or in an unexpected color like this season’s standout red, has been my hero piece this fall— I’ve been pairing them with sweaters like this one and vintage inspired tees with either loafers, sneaks or booties.  The juxtaposition of a slightly feminine top with an edgy skirt is one of my fave pairings… so this combo was a natural one for me.  I have this ruffled sweater in grey, seen here, and also an olive green… it’s super comfy and soft— I sized up to a large  for a slouchier look.  White booties, the other piece  that I can’t stop wearing for the past few seasons (proudly called this trend over a year ago; just saying !), add the perfect touch to this look. Try this combo for your own date night this week— shop my pieces above!

Look: Red & White on repeat + how to never (really) grow up

Red and white star print mini dress: ASOS | sneaks: converse | sunnies: Gucci | Leather jacket (tied around waist): Zara (old… similar ones linked here and here)

This past weekend was the annual “Broadway Bomb” — a skateboard race that starts all the way uptown near Columbia University, and ends all the way at the southern tip of Manhattan near Wall Street. Tim does it every year, and this is our second year bringing Nolan along with us! I wore this red and white star print mini dress, remixing it from NYFW when I first wore it with white booties and white sunnies for a dressier look… for this casual day running around the city, I dressed it down with classic white converse kicks and a leather moto jacket tied around my waist ( bc we’re in that awkward time in October where it’s freezing in the morning and by 2pm you’re sweating your butt off).  If there are two stand out “trends” or “colors of the season”, It would be safe to say that RED and WHITE, particularly paired together, are IT. You’ve prob already seen red and white EVERYWHERE on your insta feed, with good reason— they feel fresh, clean and a little retro, in a 90s hip kinda way— both red and white bring a lot of drama to a look, not needing much else to make an impact.

Side note, I titled this post “how to never really grow up” — because this particular event (the skateboard race) just makes Tim and I feel like we’re still 15 years old, hanging out at the local park — my friends and I watching the cute local boys skateboard, sippin’ on a Snapple iced tea, prob wearing something from Pacific Sunwear or Delia’s (omg !!! Who else used to die when the catalogue came?!) Maybe it’s because Tim and I met in middle school, and here we are married for 9 years this year… (!)… I just feel like we’re still the same goofy teenagers we were all those years ago.  Even though we both have well established careers, own and home and ARE PARENTS (!) , I still feel like I never really grew up! We try and do fun things that make us feel the simple pleasures of being a kid— little things like riding bikes and skating around the city, camping out on the beach, eating ice cream for dinner, laughing at “poop” jokes (sorry mom), making up silly songs… Even though we have a kid of our own now, we’re still kids at heart.  I don’t take myself too seriously, and try to approach life and it’s challenges with the mindset of my teenage self— where you live in the moment (bc cell phones and the internet hadn’t run rampant yet!) and didn’t really stress about the big things yet.  I think a lot of times, adults feel like they have to act, dress, and BE a certain way in order to be taken seriously— I’ve found though, that as long as you’re a good person, who does the right thing, works hard and treats others with respect, you can still “adult” and take command of a room, even while wearing overalls 😉

Just some thoughts for the week ahead!

Xo, ❤
