Ways to Wear: Fave Fall Combo

Quick Friday post for you guys, in case you have some fun plans this weekend and need an outfit idea! One of my favorite new combos for Fall is a turtleneck sweater paired with a 70s A-line mini (preferably in a fun texture, material or print) and anchored by pointed toe ankle booties.  Add a flat, structured, medium sized bag with a long strap, and this look can literally take you anywhere– I’ll wear it to work, to parties, for dinner and drinks…it can be interpreted as casual or dressy as you make it.  I love that it’s a fresh take on a skirt-top-and-boots combination; and one that we haven’t seen a whole lot of yet– and I bet you guys already have at least two of the four required pieces in your closets! I wore a similar look (but with lace up sandals) to a bridal shower last weekend:

Remember when May, June and July were THE months to have a wedding?? Does anyone else feel like the new “it” months are September, October and November?? I think people are starting to catch on to the fact that the spring months were wayyyy expensive, not to mention HOT– and every year, my husband and I find that more and more wedding invites pour in for Fall.  I wore this look to a wedding this past weekend, and it truly was one of my fave wedding looks ever.  I’ve done the LBD thing 74373738 times to weddings, as have you and everyone else– black is safe, no danger of competing with the bride– but the problem is you are literally one of the 74646399034 other girls there wearing black.  I’m OBSESSED with this slightly Asian-inspired, jacquard dress from Zara (linked below) because the material definitely says evening event, but the shape and textures are unexpected.  I decided to pair it with my gold and black striped pumps from J.Crew to add a contrast in patterns and therefore, extra interest to the look (complemented with gold accessories, of course!)  I’ve rounded up some of my fave fall appropriate wedding guest dresses out there right now, and two pairs of funky patterned pointed pumps (fall approps cocktail shoe to sharpen the look) that will pair with literally any of the dresses there–in various price ranges that you will DEF stand out in, have fun wearing, and have zero chance of provoking dagger eyes from the bride– not a little black dress in sight, so take the plunge!
Happy fall wedding season!

Mix List: My Pointed Toe Loafer Picks for Fall

If you guys buy one shoe for fall, make it the pointed toe loafer.  By now, we all have multiple pairs of boots and booties in our closet, and heels galore– the freshest way to update your looks this fall is a pair of these guys.  They will ground any look with a more masculine edge– for me, traditional flats feel too expected.  Pointed toe loafers are literally my dream shoe for so many reasons– tomboyish appeal, a sense of irony, sharpness and edge, annddddd comfort! As a teacher, I’m always on the run (sometimes literally lol), so these are my fave way to stay on trend footwear wise, while giving my feet a break during the week from heels!  Some of my fave ways to wear them:
With skinnies, cuffed or shortened to show off some ankle– this is vital…there needs to be a few inches of ankle if you wear pants or jeans with these guys…otherwise they appear more dad-ish than fashion-y.
With dresses, to offset the femininity.
With a mini skirt, leather or suede/denim button up, with a sweater or button up– kinda 70s collegiate vibes…
With overalls, duh.

Mix Must: Detailed White Sneaks

One trend that will carry you through these last weeks of summer straight into fall (and next spring) is the “detailed white sneaker”.  Once associated with middle aged dads on vacation, retirees in Florida and humans under the age of 5, the white low top sneaker is definitely cool again.  Pair them (obviously) with skinnies and a casual tee, sweater or graphic sweatshirt, or my favorite current way to wear them, with dresses to lend a fresh and sporty vibe that’s way less expected than sandals or heels.  Extra extra credit for wearing these sporty kicks with cool details like snakeskin, studs, metallic details, or different textures.  EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA credit for pairing them with this fall’s hottest pants shape, culottes or wide leg cropped pants.  Below, how I styled them this weekend with one of my favorite summer dresses and a denim jacket– totally different than how I wore this dress the first time, here:
