Ways to Wear: Fave Fall Combo

Quick Friday post for you guys, in case you have some fun plans this weekend and need an outfit idea! One of my favorite new combos for Fall is a turtleneck sweater paired with a 70s A-line mini (preferably in a fun texture, material or print) and anchored by pointed toe ankle booties.  Add a flat, structured, medium sized bag with a long strap, and this look can literally take you anywhere– I’ll wear it to work, to parties, for dinner and drinks…it can be interpreted as casual or dressy as you make it.  I love that it’s a fresh take on a skirt-top-and-boots combination; and one that we haven’t seen a whole lot of yet– and I bet you guys already have at least two of the four required pieces in your closets! I wore a similar look (but with lace up sandals) to a bridal shower last weekend:

Mix List: My Pointed Toe Loafer Picks for Fall

If you guys buy one shoe for fall, make it the pointed toe loafer.  By now, we all have multiple pairs of boots and booties in our closet, and heels galore– the freshest way to update your looks this fall is a pair of these guys.  They will ground any look with a more masculine edge– for me, traditional flats feel too expected.  Pointed toe loafers are literally my dream shoe for so many reasons– tomboyish appeal, a sense of irony, sharpness and edge, annddddd comfort! As a teacher, I’m always on the run (sometimes literally lol), so these are my fave way to stay on trend footwear wise, while giving my feet a break during the week from heels!  Some of my fave ways to wear them:
With skinnies, cuffed or shortened to show off some ankle– this is vital…there needs to be a few inches of ankle if you wear pants or jeans with these guys…otherwise they appear more dad-ish than fashion-y.
With dresses, to offset the femininity.
With a mini skirt, leather or suede/denim button up, with a sweater or button up– kinda 70s collegiate vibes…
With overalls, duh.

Rebecca Minkoff Runway, Fall ’14

The “varsity” jacket, sometimes called the “bomber” jacket also, has been coming down runways for a few seasons now.  They are pretty much EVERYWHERE, which usually makes me NOT want to wear something, but in this case, I pulled from some old runway inspiration (my favorite varsity jacket looks above) and challenged myself to find a way to wear mine in a way that was different, and me.  Also, come mid-winter, my everyday jeans-booties-sweater routine is starting to feel like a rut…

Grey varsity jacket: JCrew (sold out, but similar ones here)| Black crepe flared skirt: JCrew | Grey linen T-shirt: Madewell | Black leather booties: Vince |Gold chain choker: Baublebar | Gold chain and black leather bracelet: Zara (sold out)

I like the idea of pairing one of these jackets (which are a nice change up from a blazer or denim jacket) with a skirt; the contrast in sportiness and femininity appeals to me.  Gold chains and black booties, instead of dainty or romantic jewelry and a more feminine heel, feel right for me with this look, to keep it from reading too “school girl”– they add a toughness that the outfit needs.
