When styling a fringe skirt, my best advice is to keep the rest of the outfit super simple.  I wore this look for a date night on Saturday and to a friend’s graduation party afterward– I decided to go with a simple silky black tank to pair with this suede fringe skirt.  The suede lace-ups kept in vibe with the hippie-ish bohemian sensibility, while the leather marbled Rebecca Minkoff clutch added a modern edge, and the crystal statement earrings from Baublebar made the outfit a definite nighttime look.  This skirt was super fun to wear since it has a lot of movement, plus, fringe brings the texture to an outfit that I crave!  Below you can find links to a few of my fringe skirt picks, as this exact skirt is sold out 😦

Weekly Round-up: Things That Made Me Smile

1. Brunch with my oldest girlfriends:

unnamed189

EAT Gastropub opened up in Oceanside, NY recently, and we’ve been dying to try it out…and it did not disappoint!  A few Moscow Mules, Prosecco Mimosas, and other creatively-named-pretty-drinks-whose-names-I-can’t-remember later, and we were happy as could be.  If you live in New York or Long Island, you def have to to try it out.  With indoor and outdoor seating, an awesome cocktail menu, and the best Huevos Rancheros around, it is a must for weekend brunch!

2. New Mini-Bar Additions:

unnamed190

Can you spot the gold and sparkly glasses on top of my mini-bar? They are beyond adorable and say “cheers” and “pop”, a sweet gift from one of my best friends (obviously, she knows my gold obsession!) They fit in perfectly with my decor.  This at home bar is pretty easy to copy– the mirrored chest is from Home Goods, and is perfect for storing extra glassware, bottles, and bar accessories.  The wine rack is a complete DIY for under $25– shelves were $10 each from IKEA, the metal wine glass holders $1 each (also from IKEA), and gold spray paint was a few bucks from Home Depot– minimal effort, and voila! A “custom” at home bar!

3. 30 (ok, 32), Going on 13:

unnamed187

Even though this isn’t fashion or style related, I had to include this moment from this week, because it’s totally impossible to play a faculty softball game with the BEST teacher friends you could ask for and NOT smile and be happy! How cute are our outfits!?

4. J.Crew Ankle Tie Tassel Sandals:

unnamed188

You might remember these from the last weekly round-up, when I listed them as an item I was currently coveting…well, here they are, live and in action!  They are everything I hoped they’d be and more…the color and texture are on point for summer, they’re super comfortable, and add more interest and dimension to an outfit than a pair of plain old flip flops.  Linked here to buy, as well as the Wildfox sunnies!

5. My favorite quiet spot in the house:

unnamed191

There’s nothing like a corner to make you feel safe and cozy, right? This reading chair is one of my favorite spots in my house.  The gallery wall is another one of my DIY projects that I’m pretty proud of– I gathered up old mismatched picture frames, spray painted them gold and white to match my decor, and chose new pictures for them.  Super easy and a really creative and personal way to decorate an empty wall! (Lamp, pillow, throw are all from HomeGoods; chair is Macy’s).

Hope you guys are enjoying your weekend!

Christine

Mix List: Summer Wishlist

Even though its only been in the 60s this past week (in New York at least), school is winding down (only three more weeks, fellow teachers!), and it’ll be summer before we know it! I always say that during the summertime is when I feel most like myself– in terms of being carefree, like a kid again, happy to run around in cut-offs and sandals.  And in order to prepare for the ease of the next few months, I’ve rounded up some of the items on my personal summer style wishlist– some, like the metallic J.Crew sandals and One Teaspoon cut-offs (by far, the BEST DENIM SHORTS EVER!!!!!) are pillars of my hot weather wardrobe, and have proven themselves worthy of repeat buys this time every year!  There’s kind of a blue, white and gold theme going on here, which only became apparent and intentional when I was three quarters of the way done selecting these items for you…again, the denim-on-more-than-just-jeans trend continues from spring, with a heavy 70s influence, and white is pretty much synonymous with summertime and Popsicle stains, right? Gold is just, well…is there literally anything better than shiny gold on sunned skin on a night out with a drink in your hand and a warm breeze in the air?! No, there isn’t.
Shop the exact items below, and enjoy the countdown to salt in the air and sand in your hair!

Weekly Roundup: Last Week’s Mix…

So I’ve been wanting to do some sort of weekly list-type post about the little things, some (ok, mostly) style-based, that inspire me, make me think and make me smile each week…check back every weekend for some fun ideas and to see what’s made my list!

1. Memorial Day Weekend Outfit #1:

unnamed185

I used this sweater in creating a “ways to wear” outfit (see last post), and was inspired to remix IT with these leather shorts for a MDW BBQ!  Leather shorts are more versatile than you think guys…summer nights, in fall and winter with tights, during spring with a sweater like this…

2. The Little White Dress:

unnamed183

Wore this LWD to a friend’s MDW bbq…if you don’t have a little white dress like this yet for summer– what are you waiting for!? There are a ton out there right now; Zara has some of my favorites…(including this one pictured above!)

3. Birthday Wheels:

unnamed184

I turned 32 this weekend…and my husband surprised me (kind of…by surprised I mean I tagged him in every Instagram photo involving a beach cruiser bike in my feed for months prior to May…) with this PERFECT  pink and white bike…basket and all <3…can’t wait to ride this around alllll summer! Some links if you’re interested in racing me:

REI

SEARS

SCHWINN

4. Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/

One of the best sales around, Nordstrom is having its Half-Yearly Sale, both online and in-store…score  marked downs from some of my favorite designers like Alexander Wang, Rebecca Minkoff, Rag and Bone and Baublebar.

5. Ankle Wrap Sandals from J.Crew:

unnamed186

With the 30% off coupon code from this weekend, I may or may not (def did) order these ankle tie flat sandals from J.Crew…$89 with code, not bad for a shoe that will take me through summer…I love the texture of the raffia and the on trend ankle ties! Linked here!
